The Radiology Department (x-ray department) in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin remains open on a case-by case basis. We are putting these restrictions in place in the interest of patient safety as part of the COVID-19 response.

All planned outpatient and day-case imaging is being reviewed weekly by our consultants in conjunction with your child's consultant. All non-essential imaging is being deferred but urgent/essential imaging will proceed. Our radiology administration team will contact you in the days coming up to your appointment date to let you know if your child's planned imaging will go ahead or be deferred.

We are following all infection control guidelines issued by the hospital and are working hard to make plans for every patient that meet both their imaging needs and their Covid-19 safety needs. Please contact our Radiology reception team on (01) 4096666 (Reception) or (01) 4096454 (Appointments) with any queries.

In order to support safety of our patients, their parents or guardians, and our staff, we have made changes to how we work so that close contact between people is minimised.

Rescheduled Radiology Appointments

  • If your appointment as been deemed clinically as non-essential at this time, a member of the administration team from the Radiology Department (x-ray department) will contact you either via phone call or in writing. This will explain to you regarding the process of rescheduling.

  • Please contact (01) 4096454 (Radiology Appointments) Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5pm for any further information.

Patients attending Essential Radiology Appointments: the below points are to assist with the ongoing safety of our patients and to practise social distancing;

  • Please note that in line with our renewed visitor restrictions, we ask that only one parent/guardian attends for the appointment with the patient. We request that brothers and sisters of patients do not come in at this time to appointments.

  • We are asking patients to attend only 5 minutes before the time on their appointment card and to arrive to the Radiology Reception area.

  • Once you are checked in with our Radiology Reception team, you move directly to the room in which your test will take place. The team will direct you to the location. This means that the waiting room for the department will only be used where essential.

  • Depending on the type of scan being performed and the length of time you will be in the room, the staff member you meet may be wearing protective clothing (mask/gown etc.).

  • Once your imaging is complete you should either go directly home, (if you have no other appointments scheduled) or proceed to your next appointment.

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for patients and their families and we are working to provide services in a different way where possible.
