Division of Anaesthesiology

The Department of Anaesthesiology at Children’s Health Ireland in CHI at Crumlin provides pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia services and post-operative medical care for all children undergoing a wide range of complex surgical procedures, non-surgical interventions, and radiological examinations. In addition, we provide 24 hour on call emergency cover.

The department also incorporates a specialist division of pain medicine, with anaesthesiologists and specialist pain nurses directing the management of acute and complex pain.

There are 16 Consultant Anaesthetists and 6 Consultants Intensivists working in the department. We deliver around 12,000 general anaesthetics per year. Each specialist anaesthetises around 600-800 children each year. We also play a leading role in education and training.
