Children at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin OLCHC, did not need to worry about Santa finding them while they are away from home this Christmas. This week, with the help of Cisco TelePresence®, Santa, the ultimate ‘silver surfer’, visited Our Lady’s to speak to children personally about what they want for Christmas this year.
Children and teenagers attending Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and their families were able to have a live conversation via Cisco high-definition video system directly to Santa in the North Pole. The children were able to share their Christmas wishes with him, while Mrs Claus and Santa’s elf helpers will be on hand to give gifts in person to the children.
Teresa Slevin, Clinical Nurse Manager at OLCHC said:
“Around 100 very ill children will spend this Christmas at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin each year. We try to get as many children as we can home for Christmas. Having a child with a serious illness puts a lot of strain on families, particularly at this time of year. That is why coming up to Christmas this magical event organised by CISCO is an amazing experience bringing joy and fun to the children and a major distraction from their treatment.”
Adam Grennan, country manager, Cisco Ireland, said, “Every year the population of our world grows bigger and bigger presenting challenges to all sorts of people. One of those is Santa. How does he manage to get round so many children of all ages in such a short time? Well, just like many of you, Santa now uses the clever video technology to make sure that even children in hospital don’t miss out.
