This page is information on hospital media guidelines and details in relation to consent needed to film, photograph or interview a staff member, child or family at CHI at Crumlin.

The CHI Communications Team is responsible for ensuring that whenever children/families/staff members are photographed, filmed or interviewed at CHI there is full written consent to do so from the particpant.

Parents and families

We frequently receive requests from media wanting to film or take photographs in the hospital. No children will be involved unless their parents or legal guardians agree. A member of the CHI Communications Team will explain exactly what the photographs, footage or interview will be used for. If you have any questions about any of this please contact the Communications Manager.

If we wish to re-use a photograph or film footage, we will ask your permission again. However, if the photos or footage are taken by an outside organisation we will not be able to control re-use. We can discuss with you whether this would be the case.

If a family wish for media to visit their child for an interview they must seek permission from the Ward Manager and member of the Communications Manager beforehand.


All media enquiries must be directed to the Communications Manager.  

No media should be present in the hospital without permission from the Chief Executive via the Communications Manager.

All media personnel must be accompanied by a member of the CHI Communications Team or a Senior Staff member at all times while on the hospital site.

In order to film, photograph or interview a child or family or staff member at CHI you must receive permission from the CHI Head of Communications who will in turn arrange written consent from the staff member, parent or guardian, and if appropriate from the child themselves.  If you would like to use your own consent forms you must first discuss them with the CHI Head of Communications to assess their suitability. Patient Condition Checks

CHI at Crumlin cannot comment on individual cases. Maintaining a client’s confidentiality is not only an ethical requirement for the Hospital, it is also a legal requirement as defined in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) along with the Data Protection Acts 1988-2018. When a client or family makes personal information public, this does not relieve the Hospital of its duty to preserve/uphold client confidentiality at all times. 

Filming at CHI

If you would like to film at CHI at Crumlin as part of a documentary, programme or series, please contact the Communications Manager to discuss feasibility. A location fee may need to be agreed which would be paid to the hospital as a donation.

CHI documentaries

We are happy to discuss proposals for documentaries at CHI, however please note we receive many requests of this nature and may not be able to help you. We discuss proposals on the understanding that exclusive access to any part of the hospital is not granted until confirmation has been given by us in writing. We will not confirm involvement in any programme before firm commission.

Ongoing filming requires a written agreement to be signed between CHI and the TV company, which will bind the production to our strict consent procedures.
