Thursday 28th May 2020

Children’s Nurses and Healthcare Assistants at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin were recognised today Thursday 28th May for their outstanding contribution in the fields of clinical, management, education and support. The recognition ceremony also includs the Chris McMahon Lifetime Achievement Award which each year goes to someone who exemplifies the nursing values of Care, Compassion and Commitment.

The annual CHI / RCSI Nursing & Healthcare Assistant Excellence Awards this year brought a double celebration as this is also the International Year of the Nurses and Midwife in honour of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale and in recognition of her contribution to health and humanity.

Awards 2020

The nurses at CHI at Crumlin treat over 120,000 patients annually throughout 39 clinical specialities.

Speaking about the event Director of Nursing at CHI at Crumlin Tracey Wall said: “The last few months in particular have highlighted the dedication our nurses and healthcare assistants have to our patients and their families. While we were unable to host our regular ceremony, we still wanted to mark the occasion and celebrate our winners by hosting a socially distanced event which will also be filmed and shared online with staff around the hospital.

“The year 2020 also marks the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife and we have held a range of opportunities and activities to thank all our nurses and our colleagues throughout the hospital for their ongoing hard work and commitment. The roles nurses and healthcare assistants fulfil in CHI at Crumlin are extremely valued. This week we want to say a special thank you to all our staff for dedicating their careers to delivering outstanding paediatric patient care.”
