This page is information on hospital media guidelines and details in relation to consent needed to film, photograph or interview a child or family at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin OLCHC

The Communications Office is responsible for ensuring that whenever children are photographed, filmed or interviewed at OLCHC there is full written consent to do so from the parents or legal guardian, and where appropriate from the child themselves.

Parents and families

We frequently receive requests from media wanting to film or take photographs in the hospital. No children will be involved unless their parents or legal guardians agree. The Communications Manager will explain exactly what the photographs, footage or interview will be used for. If you have any questions about any of this please contact us.

If we wish to re-use a photograph or film footage, we will ask your permission again. However, if the photos or footage are taken by an outside organisation we will not be able to control re-use. We can discuss with you whether this would be the case.

If a family wish for media to visit their child for an interview they must seek permission from the Ward Manager and Communications Office beforehand.


All media enquiries must be directed to the Communications Office on 01 4096002.

No media should be present in the hospital without permission from the Chief Executive via the Communications Office.

All media personnel must be accompanied by the Communications Manager or a Senior Staff member at all times while on the hospital site.

In order to film, photograph or interview a child at OLCHC you must receive permission from the Communications Office who will in turn arrange written consent from their parent or guardian, and if appropriate from the child themselves.  If you would like to use your own consent forms you must first discuss them with the Communications Office so we can make sure they are suitable. If you need further information please contact the Communications Office or CEO Office.

Patient Condition Checks

We have a duty to protect patient and family confidentiality. Since April 2011, OLCHC has not provided media outlets with limited patient information i.e. condition checks. We regret that we can no longer accept requests for condition checks. The hospital has an ethical duty to our patients and families and will continue to adhere to confidentiality requirements in line with the Data Protection Acts 1988 & 2003.

Filming at OLCHC

If you would like to film at OLCHC as part of a documentary, programme or series, please contact the CEO office or Communications Office to discuss feasibility. A location fee may need to be agreed which would be paid to the hospital as a donation.

OLCHC documentaries

We are happy to discuss proposals for documentaries at OLCHC, however please note we receive many requests of this nature and may not be able to help you. We discuss proposals on the understanding that exclusive access to any part of the hospital is not granted until confirmation has been given by us in writing. We will not confirm involvement in any programme before firm commission.

Ongoing filming requires a written agreement to be signed between OLCHC and the TV company, which will bind the production to our strict consent procedures.
